Spreading the CHIZ

I was busy browsing the shops at MOA when my friend sent me an sms stating that 10 senators are already being declared right that moment. It was funny actually, coz I didn't even have to ask who won (except for the three persons I missed in my countdown), the partial results have already shown who will seat next.

Truth be told, I was more concerned on what Chiz Escudero's reaction is in this turn of events. I realized now that I have always looked for him whenever something happens in the country. Somehow, whatever Chiz said, I believe.

No, he's not a relative nor am I one of those girls who supports him just because I find him cute or what not.

I believe Chiz because in the first place, he never even gave me one reason in the past not to believe him, or to even doubt what his intentions for the country.

Sure, except for standing toe-to-toe with PGMA, Chiz has never proven anything more than his courage and dignity. Some says he is more of a talker than someone who'll take definite actions at issues. In my eyes, that makes Chiz even more special. For someone who comes from a political family it is expected that he'll be a great orator and sure enough he is. Yet, what makes his speech special is that it seems to pierce the heart and address the needs and yearnings of the millions of poor Filipinos.

When he won this last May election, I couldn't help myself at the irony of it all. Here is a man who have stood loyally beside Erap during the former's hiatus days in MalacaƱang. The people have condemned the figures who rallied behind Erap during those days. Didn't we all choose PGMA to replace the deposed president? He didn't. He remained behind him, if not beside. Protecting his rights as the lawfully-elected president, and pushing for a peaceful and truthful impeachment process.

He was not ashamed of it. When I first found out that Chiz is going to run for the Senate, that's the first thing I looked for in the internet. What issues could possibly be thrown to him once he starts campaigning? I cannot find anything except that--his loyalty to the former president.

When he was asked about it during GMA 7's "Isang Tanong," he aptly and simply replied that his loyalty lies where his belief takes him. I looked at him, talking and talking and talking, and realized that there is a truth in what he said. It is laudable and at the same time admirable that a politician who has only 9 years under his belt was able to realize that loyalty is sometimes more important than political security.

I do not expect something extraordinary from Chiz Escudero. What I do expect from him is to stay true to his words. If he can do that, then he would make a lot of his supporters happy.

Only that. From politicians these days, you just cannot ask for anything more than the usual.
